I've been going to Commonwealth Strength in Sunderland for over a year, and it has become such an important part of my routine. One of the biggest draws for me is the convenience—being right in the center of town makes it so easy to stay consistent with my workouts. Beyond location, what truly sets this gym apart is its inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. The classes I've taken—ranging from strength training to yoga and mobility—are thoughtfully designed and accessible to people of all levels. The mobility class, in particular, is a great blend of yoga, balance work, and focused attention on smaller muscle groups that often get overlooked. Emily is a phenomenal coach. She has a unique ability to meet everyone where they are—no matter your experience or ability level. Her commitment to proper form, function, and individual goals is so important, especially for safe and effective strength training. She also creates an empowering and positive space for teens to learn foundational movements and build confidence in their bodies. Commonwealth Strength isn’t just a gym—it’s a supportive community that makes movement and strength accessible, meaningful, challenging and sustainable for everyone.

Emily has a premier gym in the Valley. She is a welcoming inviting trainer who goes the extra mile to make sure you feel heard and supported. You will feel challenged in the sessions and group workouts, but she is there to help you in every step of the way. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to improve their overall health and wellness while feeling encouraged and in a great atmosphere!

If you are looking for a great gym check out Commonwealth Strength in Sunderland, MA. Emily has created a safe and welcoming gym that offers to clients everything from yoga to personal training to power lifting and everything in between. Emily and Ryan are both very experienced coaches and trainers that are more than able to modify your workouts to accommodate your age, abilities, strength, and range of motion. I'm loving the twice weekly Senior Strength class, and it's just what I need to keep me feeling strong and moving well. I'd encourage everyone in my "older" age group to check it our for both group classes and personal training!

Emily, Ryan, and all folks involved at Commonwealth Strength, have built a community that tailors to a range of unique fitness needs and interests. From my consult with Emily onwards, I have felt welcomed at all classes and have received personal feedback on form and injury recovery that I have not experienced elsewhere. I love this place!

I have known Commonwealth Strength's owner, Emily, for years and she is the reason I got into lifting and pushed myself with strength and beyond! She is thoughtful in designing workouts for all her clients, knowledgeable, fun (music too ;-), and has a great variety of different options- from yoga to foam rolling to athletic cardio to powerlifting. The gym space always feels safe and comfortable yet gives you the opportunity to challenge and test yourself. I like how supportive the environment is as well as all of the coaches and trainers. I know I can always ask Emily and other trainers questions and get answers that I need in a timely fashion. I like that there are also often charity fundraiser gym classes, group activities, lifting meets to bring community together, and celebrations. It is also a beautiful location, both inside and out (mountains galore), and right next to some great local restaurants!

I love that this gym feels like home, and I love that Emily is a fitness trainer who is smart and encouraging without being overwhelming. I have stayed away from gyms and one on one training for many years, until my fitness needs required someone with more knowledge than I could glean from the Internet. The classes at Commonwealth strength are thorough and challenging while somehow also remaining accessible. My spouse and I are so happy with our experience both at the gym itself and also with Emily!

Emily and all the folks at Commonwealth Strength are fantastic. The classes are challenging and energizing, the vibe is friendly and positive, and they're great about offering modifications for a variety of ability levels and limitations. I also love that the focus is on movement as a way to help your body feel good and work well (NOT focused on weight loss or appearance).

If you’re looking for a highly inclusive space in Western Mass, this is your gym. Owner and head coach Emily makes workouts accessible to everyone, beginner to advanced. Studio-style gyms like CS can be highly intimidating for many folks (young women especially!) and Emily has worked really hard to make her community a welcome one. Emily is the reason I got into powerlifting and kettle bell workouts and both have changed my life instrumentally.
