Great little place to grab breakfast and lunch the sandwiches are amazing !
Came in today for 2 sandwiches, waited over 40 minutes…. If the kitchen is that backed up, please let folks know before ordering.
I got an Italian sandwich.. which is the first time I ever got a sandwich from them and it was just totally put together wrong… the meat was just thrown on top of the sandwich not actually in it and put mostly baloney. The sandwich was prolly the worst sandwich I’ve ever had.. I do not suggest getting a sub from them because obviously they don’t care about what they’re doing. They don’t care about the customers!
Went for the first time this weekend and unfortunately did not feel welcome..each staff member seemed like we were inconveniencing them by being there and ordering. I’ve worked in a kitchen for over ten years of my life and understand the stress and need for prep time but the woman working the sandwich area could not have seemed any more put off by having to take our order..food was just ok.
One of their employees illegally advised I can’t have a service animal without a vest one. That is inaccurate and illegal. They legally have to ask if the animal is service, and what duties it performs to qualify. They did not. The woman just said “You can’t have dogs in here,” which I can forgive, and when I did not immediately respond I advised “I’m processing my response” (calmly) but when I advised they’re service they advised “they need to have a vest” when I advised legally they do not she started complaining angrily out loud to all of her employees “she needs to learn the law… we can get shutdown because it’s against health code” etc etc. I am happy to calmly explain to employees, but I did not have the opportunity to as this employee was acting unreasonable, combative and unprofessional. A shame since I’ve visited several times without issue and the rest of the staff thus far have been nice and welcoming to myself and my service animal. Such a hard thing to have an invisible need and others feel that doesn’t qualify based on the stereotype that a service animal must look a certain way. Even if that exists, ask it in a polite way or take your concerns to the manager without it being in ear shot of the customer. For context, my animal is an 11 pound, calm and trained animal that was in my control (for this visit they were in my arms). I’m told that after I left they continued to make derogatory remarks towards people with invisible needs and that I might as well have a “bunny.” While I understand that every have their own opinions, I just wish it was handled better and left to management to discuss versus their whole staff taking out their personal opinions on the matter. We will not be returning.
I've traveled the World and lived in a bunch of places, and nothing compares to Tailgate. I hate to say it, but it's so true, and it keeps me coming back even though I haven't lived in SH for a decade. The ambiance of the place is phenomenal. It's so adorable and warming, like your visiting your favorite family member. Handwritten menus and knick knacks scattered throughout the place to make you feel at home. The food is magnificent. I almost always get The Lumberjack on wheat wrap, and ALWAYS get the pickle 🥒. Do yourself a favor and get a side of pasta salad, and then pick up some delicious chips as you slide down towards the register. I'm 2 hours away as I write this, and I'm now changing my weekend plans..
I Love this place! I especially love the BFast sandwiches BUT I like the lunch sandwiches too. The staff make it great tho! Jess, Julia, Lori, Christie & Ari have been only great to me and they are a treasure to behold in S Hadley!
A great college Deli and grocery that serves up homemade lunch & breakfast sandwiches, soups, sides, hot & Iced coffees, drinks, snacks, ice cream and alcohol. There is seating inside our outside at two patio areas. Located at the end of the village commons and across the street from Mt. Holyoke College.

I have been here twice since the new ownership and sad to say I will probably not be back. We used to love stopping here for lunch or a quick snack and coffee. Definitely not the same service. The workers have been so rude. Its unfortunate.

Owners changed and it couldnt be worse of a place. I used to go all the time but the whole experience changed. I walk in and get blank stares, no greeting, and a 20 minute wait every single time.
Having driven by numerous times, today was the day to check it out to buy sides for our annual dose of Shakespeare in West Hartford which starts with a picnic. We could not have been less impressed with the lifeless staff... No one greeted us when we arrived. We passed at least 6 employees with nary a glance our way. We arrived at the pre-made salad case at the back, and we stood for minutes before any of the employees within 10 feet of us asked if they could assist. Someone needs to give this team a shot of warmth and enthusiasm if this business is to grow rather than being utilized by locals based on convenience. No matter how good the salads we bought today are, sadly, it is unlikely we will ever return.

I have been many times and it was always great. Today, while being short staffed, they made the most perfect sandwich I have ever had.

Boutique deli with great selection. The quality of the subs hasn t been the same since childhood but I believe in them if you request Extra stuffings in your order

Made my food wrong proceeds to tell me thats what I ordered. Middle aged women taking orders needs to adjust her attitude if shes going to deal with public. I will not be going back didnt even bother asking for a refund just threw it in the trash. Id stay away, they cant make a simple sandwich right nor provide a friendly or respectful environment

Excellent lunch spot! I got the notch, roast beef sandwich and it was to die for. Service was polite professional and speedy despite quite the lunch rush. A good system for getting through the line and again, excellent food. Great drinks selection, numerous wines, good desserts and iced coffee. Just go.
I was hooked on the Lumberjack, but last time I tried the Roast Beef sandwich with the silly name that I forget but felt really awkward when I had to form the words and speak them out in public, but yeah that sandwich was awesome too. Now I don t know what to get next time. Friendly fast and clean i should say also.
Tailgate is my usual lunch spot, but lately I ve noticed the service has gotten slower & inconvenient. Staff takes a long time making the food & they chatter a lot behind the line. Recently I ordered a cold ham & cheese sandwich & waited 30 mins for it!! Only to have to leave without the sandwich due to other priorities. Why I had to wait that long for a cold sandwich baffles me. I used to love tailgate, but lately I haven t been impressed. Do better.

Love this place. Homemade soups are delicious, sandwiches also fresh & great! Cozy place to grab a bite for nice lunch or a tasty snack. Warm atmosphere & friendly employees. Good for singles, couples, & families. I havent been in years, because I dont live in the area, but judging from the pics, it looks like they have added more! Cant wait to go back, hopefully soon.
I will give three stars because my sandwich tasted good and the place has an overall nice atmosphere however i was 100% misled by what this place is. I drive by all the time and see the sign saying Deli/Market. I built up a lot of expectations only to be really let down that this place is really just a sandwich shop. They sell some fancy snacks and extremely overpriced wine, however i do not see how this place can be considered a deli. The sandwich was good, but about the size of my fist for $10. Kind of a letdown as it was all just prepackaged presliced meat and cheese on a store bought roll, not what youd expect from a place that advertises as a deli.
This is a great lunch stop. The soups and sandwiches are great. Staff is always friendly. One of my favorite stops in South Hadley.

What one needs, when one needs it. Self serve coffee/ice coffee bar, snacks, deli food, etc. And its OPEN, unlike some other coffee shops in the area on a Saturday afternoon.

I have to be honest I went here twice, the first time wasnt too great. Didnt know what all the hype was about. Kinda disappointing. Went there a second time. Same thing. Disappointing. My grandmother makes better sandwiches than this place and shes dead.

This place was an awesome find. A coworker took some people from the office here. Big selection, fresh, and decent prices. A must try for sure. If you do try it, let me know what you thought.

Where I go for my weekly stash of avocado oil potato chips (seriously, the best!), or a midday caffeine pick-me-up. They also have really good breakfast sandwiches and an assortment of interesting local beer.

Great spot to grab a nice craft beer or a really good wine, although I usually stop here for their sandwiches. The Zippity-Do-Da is a personal favorite, and is the best roast beef sandwich around imo. The staff is always friendly, wait is minumal, and I can pick up a great new wine to try after work. I also appreciate that they sell the Sutter Home mini bottles, available as a single if you want to try a new varietal without purchasing a whole bottle. One of the best shops in the Commons for sure!
The sandwiches were very small for the price and just mediocre. The store itself is cool with a good selection of drinks and chips, but for the price, I was dissatisfied with what I received.

This market deli is such a great place to pick up a sandwich, a quick supper, a few groceries, a bottle of wine, or even just a cup of coffee and a pastry. Parking is easy and prices are reasonable.
The only spot in town for quick decent sandwiches and deli salad. Plus wine! Just wish they had some kind of music playing once in a while.

Ive been coming here nearly every week for the past year or so, so I obviously love this place! I really love the staff they are always friendly. Service is quick, and their salads are great. The prices are a little high, but worth it for the great location and nice seating outdoors!

Great food and super environment
was taken aback when computer says closing time on Saturday is 6 pm...I arrived shortly after 4:30 pm to find everything being put away and closing up.... I was then told they close at 5 pm (not 6) because they are now on winter hours. I suggest they get with it in a hurry and update their on-line info
Im not surprised to read the last review after just walking out without ordering due to how incredibly rude the lady behind the counter was. Good foods not worth being treated like that. Place is going down hill fast.

I go to the tailgate during work to grab a sandwhich like so many others. The parking can be a nightmare but it really depends on the hour you visit. The ordering process and purchasing process are very quick, so is the wait time on your order. The menu is awfully cramped with its several dozen items. If its a hot meal then its nuked in a microwave right in front of you, resulting in unevenly heated sandwhiches. Prices are a little high for the quality of food you receive but it makes a decent lunch. Nice location and seating and a great place to grab some food during work.

I had to use a Best ever on Tailgate. Whenever I am in town I must go here. If Plato were alive today hed cite Tailgate as the Form from which all other sandwich shops were wrought. Both a standard and imaginative menu and a small and decent wine selection. Best ever well deserved.

It has been wonderful living across the street from Tailgate for the past year. The staff is very friendly and good at what they do. Tailgate is able to handle the lunch-rush with ease. You will always be able to get in and out quickly. Some of my favorite sandwiches (and Ive tried almost all of them) are: The Harvest, Zippidy-do-dah, Notch, Meatball Sub, and the Sun-dried Tomato. Tailgate has seating both inside and out. They sell some grocery items including wine, but the main focus is the deli. They also serve an excellent clam-chowder in a bread-bowl. Try the 1/2 Sandwich & Soup special. This place has been a staple for my girlfriend and I. We highly recommend it.
