Any of the classes I’ve taken at the Melrose Y are great . The new renovations added are a plus for this facility. All the employees are kind and friendly. A great place for your indoor exercise regimen

A truly great YMCA. Clean, well maintained, and renovated facility. Excellent staff. Great energy in the place. So many classes to choose from including yoga every day with great instructors and full classes. Drop-in pickleball and basketball are held regularly in the gym. Plenty of open swim in the pool and there is a new sauna for cool down next to the pool. You can't beat the value for the money.

Was not notified I wouldn't be able to sit in the pool area during my son's swim lessons until the middle of the third class. At which point I was not able to communicate with my child that I was leaving (not by choice) and would be back. The swim instructor does not enforce safety rules with the students. With three students at the wall while he swims away with one at a time, the three at the wall are out of his reach and sight. They are allowed to swim and move away from the wall when they are in the class to learn to swim to begin with (Stage 1). During the two lessons I was able to sit in, I witnessed many times my son was struggling to keep his head above water while playing away from the wall. The lifeguard nor the swim instructor had eyes on him. All it would've taken was him to lose his toe grip on the pool floor and he would be drowning. So you can imagine my frustration when third class in, now I am not allowed to sit in and potentially be the only one with eyes on my child. At this point I asked what my options were and was told no refunds. I am ok with losing the money and walking away with my child breathing. Do not recommend.

the YMCA in Melrose has recently remodeled their fitness center and honestly, I haven't been to a nicer facility. They have a very wide range of free weights and ample cardio and strength machines. I also take a couple of fitness classes, including a strength class and a TRX class. Although I haven't been in the swimming pool in a long time, last I saw it was in great shape, if a little cool (which is just right for swimming laps). And there are lots of available hours for swimming laps. I think there's also a sauna, if that interests you.

A place for community. They serve people of many dynamics. I am a breast cancer survivor and participated in the Livestrong Program. So many miracles happened through the program and it opened the doors for many opportunities for my family. Thank you YMCA.

The gym itself has lots of features like a weight room, yoga room, sauna, pool, and locker rooms. They re-did the weight room, it's a lot bigger than before and there is usually no wait for machines. Free weights are in an awkward spot. Check the schedule before lap swimming, swim lessons and swim team take up the pool often. The staff here are really great. They’re personable and friendly to their regulars. I came with a friend who had a medical emergency in the weight room, they were quick to help. The hours of operation are slim, closing at 4pm on the weekends, that being said they have the most flexible hours out of the ones my membership applies to. A couple months ago there was an issue regarding young children in the weight room despite having rules against it, I had watched some kids almost hurt themselves. They have changed since then, they clearly pay attention to this now and I no longer see kids in there.

I like the pool & take the aquatics classes, especially the aqua stretch twice a week. I have arthritis & the water really helps me to stretch/do aerobics. The class is made up of really nice/fun older adults mostly (but anyone can join!). We are like a community & I included a photo from our 2024 Holiday Party! The YMCA provides my social as well as physical needs as a senior! The facility is great with the new renovations; I also use the sauna & women's showers/dressing area.
