We are a locally owned an operated boutique studio based out of West Acton, offering barre and cardio classes for clients of all levels. We host outdoor classes at Athlete's Park at Boston Landing in Brighton, MA throughout the spring and summer seasons. The Modern Barre approach offers a music driven, low impact, full body workout that will strengthen, lengthen, and tone the entire body. Our mission is to create a challenging yet supportive environment to leave you feeling energized, refreshed, and inspired. We look forward to seeing you outdoors!

To say Modern Barre is my happy place is an understatement. This sunny studio in Chestnut Hill brightens up the gloomiest of my days. As an avid fitness connoisseur, group exercise enthusiast and former instructor I had the great pleasure of finding Modern Barre five years ago and I never turned back. The workouts are challenging and always cover all the difficult to get areas, toning and tightening the wobbliest of my bits. While the workouts are challenging you don't realize what's happening because Julia and her highly skilled instructors have such a pleasant and nurturing way of getting you there. The classes range from Signature Barre where we cover the entire body, working each muscle group, to Barre Express for the times you're on the go and need to get a quick effective 45 minute workout to Cardio Barre where we dance and sweat followed by the leg, arm and core work. The owner, Julia Robinson is a consummate professional, a gifted dancer and a giving instructor. She has trained her team of instructors to be the perfect extension of herself. They all challenge and push you to work hard in their own unique ways. The studio itself is charming, full of sunshine and extremely clean and there is a friendly and welcoming camaraderie among the patrons of the studio. If you are looking for a challenging and effective workout with skilled instructors and a pleasant space and energy, then look no further, Modern Barre is your place!

Modern Barre is the best! I had done barre at other studios and always dreaded class, but knew it was a good workout so I should keep going. Modern Barre has completely changed that for me! I look forward to the class and the lavender cooldown really adds a great touch to keep you working hard. The instructors are all extremely nice and welcoming.

I stick to Modern Barre since they started to offer classes in my gym (NB Fitness Club) about one year and a half ago. Love their ballet based techniques and the instructors pays attention to everyone. Their combination of different exercises are so effective and just right for me. Every time when I need to improve my strength, tone my body for special occasions like dance competition or intensive dance workshop, or just need an upbeat workout, Modern Barre is definitely my go to place.

I have been taking classes at Modern Barre for about a year and a half and absolutely love it! My favorite classes are Signature and Cardio Core. You can tell each instructor is extremely passionate about what they do, which creates an energizing and positive atmosphere. The small class size feels personal and supportive, and I love how all the instructors know my name! If you are looking for a workout that will leave your legs feeling like jelly, but that is so totally non-intimidating, then I highly suggest Modern Barre!

Modern Barre has changed my life, (that sounds very dramatic) but after 13 knee surgeries I had pretty much given up on working out as a part of my life until a friend encouraged me to try MB. Their workouts, instructors, and even classmates have completely changed the way I look at what my body is capable of doing. Modern Barre is a wonderful place! The instructors are true professionals evidenced by their very carefully and intentionally planned classes. The small class sizes enable true teaching and learning and the workout is phenomenal. I appreciated their expertise and patience as I worked out there thru an entire pregnancy and beyond. I am lucky to have them as neighbors but I’d also travel far for this level of a workout experience!

I have been a Modern Barre enthusiast for about two years now, and I can’t speak enough about how great the instructors and Julia are. Every time I walk into one of their studios/ the New Balance gym, I know I’m about to have a great workout. Her pricing is comparable to other studios in the area, but where they truly differ is when the instructors and owner know you by name, show enthusiasm in knowing more about you & genuinely care that you enjoy their classes.

I first signed up when Modern Barre first opened. Few years later and I am still going back for more. I am the type of person that gets super-bored, super-fast (pretty much why I hate the gym) but MB's instructors keep it fun. The workout doesn't hurt my body but I love seeing the change and results. MB also has wonderful customer service -- Julia and her team are incredible. I've been to both Chestnut Hill and West Acton, locations -- at all locations the instructors are incredibly knowledgable, helpful and keep the work out fresh and up-to-date.
